Interested in becoming a hockey official?

For those interested becoming a hockey official, these are a number of roles you can perform. Read about the types of officials working in hockey.

If you are interested in umpiring, Scottish Hockey provide Umpire Qualifications that will enable you to officiate at matches and in competitions.

Borders Hockey Development run regular ‘Craft nights’.

A ‘craft night’ is the first stage in completing your umpiring ‘C’ badge and possibly with some umpire coaching you will complete the qualification. Those attending a craft night should have read the rules and have completed a theory test which they should bring with them.

Once you have completed the theory test it is important to get out there and practice umpiring.  When you feel confident in a practical situation Borders Hockey Development will assist you in finding a game.tournament in which you can be assessed.

All potential and current officials should familiarise themselves with the rules and competition byelaws governing hockey in Scotland.

The Scottish Hockey Officials Association is an excellent membership body for anyone who is interested or involved in officiating.
